My First Posting

Well, here's my latest attempt to get our blog up and running. I'm new to the blogging thing, so we'll see how this goes.

Today M and I are on our last day of a short vacation at Mount Magazine State Park, halfway between Paris and Havana (Arkansas that is). I brought some fine beer with me, and hard as I tried to drink it all, it is beginning to look like I'll take a significant amount home with me.

It is ridiculously beautiful up here. Right now it is 8 am, and we are both having to use the bed linens to stay warm. It is MID JUNE... IN ARKANSAS... HELLO. The panoramic view from our balcony is indescribable. Rolling blue mountains, a fog on the valley floor, a lake below, birds chirping, someone on a balcony below is blowing bubbles and we watch as they drift by. We are both sore, blistered and achy from a full day of hiking yesterday that we were NOT in shape for. It is worth it. We saw beautiful wildflowers, butterflies, and birds galore. Did I mention that it is beautiful up here?

You can even drink beer in the restaurant. They even serve good beer... Diamond Bear. You have to join the private club, but there is no charge. You just have to remember to bring your card.

We'll be headed home in a few hours, but we will be back. This will be a regular escape.

Damn, John, but I wish that I'd been there with you . . . or at least with the beer.

I've only been once on Mt. Magazine, way back in about 1983, and I drank no beer there but did stay overnight on Petit Jean Mountain, where I drank a Zinfandel, if I recall...

Oh, well...
